noun; the founder and chairman of SM Entertainment. Originally a popular singer in the 1970’s, he left the entertainment industry for several years before deciding to found SM Entertainment in 1989 and model his artists after American pop acts of the day. Thanks to the 1996 debut of H.O.T, he is credited with creating the modern idol system that has become so popular in South Korea today.
